About a week ago we added a new member to BBlogs.info. He joined us from Japan, a country who is known for lots of wonderful things, yet not for being a Blackberry country. And now we know he loves Native developers and being productive and a Pro User of Blackberry devices.

Let me welcome you, our Japanese member – Atsushi Kumaki owner of BBatjp.Wordpress.com.

We interviewed him and asked about him and his Blackberry device(s) of course.

Q : First of, tell us a little about yourself.

A : I’m a Japanese and live in Tokyo. From 2000 to 2002 and 2005 to 2009 I lived in France for my diploma. I currently teach French language and literature at some universities.

Q : How did you become familiar with blackberry?

A : Firstly I got BB9930 and after I bricked it, a BB9900 but they didn’t interest me ao much. The moment that I became familiar with BlackBerry is when I got Q10. This is also when I began using BBM. It’s BBM that let me become familiar with BB, especially BB10.

Q : We know that blackberry isn’t selling officially in Japan, how you get device if you want to?

A : To be exact, it is BB10 devices that are not available in Japan. Some BBOS devices (8707h, Bold 9700, Curve 9300, Bold 9780 and Bold 9900) are still officially available. So for other BB devices, the only way to get them is to import.

Q : Which device do you sport now?

A : Currently I usually carry Z3, Z30, Q10 and Passport.

Q : You carry 4 devices, how you use them, I mean how productive are you with bb10?

A : I carry 4 BB10 devices because I have 4 BBIDs. And some accounts are distributed between devices: First twitter account to Z3, second one to Z30, a mail account that send me some RSS feeds to Z30. Phone for Q10 and I’m using Passport mainly for BBM. I would carry only Passport, but battery don’t last a day because I have almost 30 BBM groups…

Q : Do you know how many Japanese hold a blackberry device?

A : BB Japanese users are very rare. Last year its market share is only 0.3%. I think there are 2 types of BB users in Japan: old fans of physical keyboard who don’t like BB10 and young “gadget otaku” who like devices others users don’t have.

Q : What reaction you get when people see you with device that is not iPhone or Android?

A : About Passport, normally they are surprised, ask me to use it and push some keys. Finally return it to me.

Q : What are your favorite apps and games? Rank them for us

A : I don’t play games but I am a Hub-integrated-apps addict, so these apps are my favorites apps: Blaq, Candid, iGrann, Twittly etc. I don’t like Android apps for BB10 so I deleted Snap and would like to support BB10 developers. So I love gNewsReader for feedly, ReadItNow! for Pocket and Snap10 for SnapChat. It is very difficult to rank them… but if I dare to do :

  1. Blaq
  2. gNewsReader
  3. iGrann
  4. Candid
  5. Blackbullet (expecting future headless support)
